Divisions

Patrol Division

The Patrol Division consists of twenty (20) Police Officers, four (4) Corporals, and four (4) Sergeants, divided equally into four squads. These officers work twelve (12) hour shifts from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. The Patrol Division is under the supervision of the Patrol Lieutenant.

The Patrol Division is responsible for providing twenty-four (24) hour police protection for the residents of the Borough of Pottstown. All calls for service, crime reports and any crimes in progress are responded to by the Patrol division.

The offices of the Patrol Division are located on the first floor of the Police Department. If you have a need to speak with a specific officer regarding a case already reported, please call 610-970-6570. If you have an emergency, it is vitally important to call 911.

Detective Division

The Detective Division of the Police Department is responsible for handling a majority of the follow up investigations for crimes that occur and are reported to the Police Department. They handle major crime scene processing such as evidence collection, fingerprinting and photography. As part of the Detectives Division, certain detectives handle specific crimes such as arson, sexual assault and juvenile investigations.

Community Response Unit (CRU)

In April 2001, the Pottstown Police Department formed the Community Response Unit (CRU) to assist the Borough of Pottstown in dealing with quality of life issues. This unit is staffed with highly motivated plain clothed Officers to deal with situations as they arise and deal with them promptly. They are tasked on a daily basis with problem solving and addressing narcotics related issues. The Community Response Units also works with the District Attorney's Narcotic Enforcement Team.

Records Division

The Records Division is responsible for maintaining all arrest reports, accident reports, and incident reports handled by the Pottstown Police Department. The Records Division is open from 7:30am until 4:00pm Monday through Friday.

Please note that the release of some reports may be excluded from release to the public. Records regarding on-going investigations, juveniles and domestic violence incidents may not be released. Accident reports may be requested by mail or in person at the Records Department. There is a $15.00 fee for each copy of an accident report.

Special Operations

The Special Operations Division is manned by a Sergeant and two uniformed Officers with varying hours. An important duty of Special Operations is to promote community connections by proactive community policing and problem solving. 

Special Operations duties include:

  • Warrant Services
  • Assists with narcotics enforcement
  • Community based programs
  • Foot patrols in problem areas, including high pedestrian areas such as the downtown business district
  • Prisoner Transport
  • Problem residences with multiple calls for service
  • Facility tours
  • Public speaking engagements
  • Community events
  • Parking & dumpster permits
  • Parking issues
