Street Sweeping
The Borough of Pottstown has contracted with R & S Sweeping to conduct street sweeping Borough – wide
beginning Monday, May 2, 2016.

For purposes of the project, the Borough has been divided into six Sweeping Zones. The project will begin in
Zone 1, and sweeping will occur from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Each Zone will be swept in two days. Zones 1-6
will be swept sequentially.

In the case of heavy rain, the schedule will be adjusted. Please be advised no sweeping will be done on the
weekends.

Notification signs will be posted along roadways in each Zone two days before street sweeping is scheduled. The signs are yellow with black block lettering and will identify which day of the week the sweeping will take place along your block or neighborhood. Vehicles must be moved from the roadway in preparation of street sweeping. Vehicles that have not been
relocated will be subject to fines and towing.

The sweeping will take place according to the following tentative schedule:

Zone 1 – Monday, May 2, 2016 – Tuesday, May 3, 2016
Zone 2 – Wednesday, May 4, 2016 – Thursday, May 5, 2016
**REVISED Due to Rain
Zone 3 – Thursday, May 12, 2016 - Friday, May 13, 2016

The Borough will notify residents and property owners through Swiftreach Networks, a Reverse 911 system. You may sign up for the Swiftreach service free of charge to receive Borough notifications by telephone call or text message. To sign up for alerts, visit www.pottstown.org, click, “How Do I,” then “Register For,” and choose, “Emergency Notification System.”

The Borough will provide up to date information concerning the street sweeping project on the Borough website at www.pottstown.org, as well as through social media on Facebook and Twitter.

The Borough strongly encourages property owner’s advance care to weed whack and clear debris from gutters, along curbs, and inlets prior to the street sweeping. The street sweeper is not intended to remove weeds or leaves. The street sweeper is intended to remove grit and debris from the roadway. The removal of weeds and leaves in advance helps provide for more effective street sweeping.

Street sweeping removes metal particles, debris, and trash as well as waste products left by passing vehicles. The removal of debris clears storm drains, and prevents these materials from reaching the Manatawny Creek and Schuylkill River, rotecting the Borough’s water quality and wildlife. In addition, the sweeping helps remove a hazard to bicyclists on their travels throughout the Borough.

The Borough of Pottstown appreciates the cooperation of the public as this project is completed. For
questions or additional information please contact Public Works at 610-970-6527.
