The Pottstown Parks and Recreation Department offers a wide variety of programs and activities. The parks system includes the River Front Park where you can enjoy a peaceful walk along the Schuylkill River or Memorial Park with its many athletic fields. Memorial Park also has a memorial to fallen war heroes, a play area for kids, and picnic areas. The Parks Department also maintains a number of neighborhood parks that provide residents activities close to their home.

The Community Center provides year round programs for the residents of Pottstown. Contact the Parks and Recreations Department for more information on the activities at the Center.

Membership entitles participants to a personal assessment testing and the utilization of the weight training room. We also have personal trainers that will be available to you!


WELLNESS PROGRAMS

The Ricketts Center wants to bring an awareness of health and fitness to the community. Exercise with Paul “Superman” Winterbottom! He’ll help you lose the weight and have fun doing it. Learn basic nutrition, stretching techniques, and cardio, along with strength training to fulfill your weight loss goals.
Come meet the newest member of the Wellness team, Mr. James “Hulk” Kennedy. Learn from a bodybuilder and professional judge of bodybuilders, the principles of weight lifting! Nutritional supplements education, as well as body building techniques.

YOUTH FITNESS FUN SATURDAYS

Youth will learn the importance of proper nutrition, stretching,
cardio, and weight resistant exercise. Sessions will 30 minutes
in length that will focus on the above areas. Studies show that
when children are introduced to exercise in a fun atmosphere
they develop an awareness of how important it is to keep themselves
physically active. After the children cool down they will
prepare their own healthy snack.

P.A.L. SPORTS SAMPLER

Date: July 14, 15, 16, 17, 18
Time: 3:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Ages: 6 - 10 years old
Pottstown P.A.L. will be presenting a sports sampler at the Center! Come out and learn the basics of football, soccer, dek hockey, and more.

SCIENCE ON PATROL

Date: July 15, 17,
Time: 6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
Ages: 12-14 years old

This program, introduced to us by National PAL, gives the opportunity to experience the important role of science in crime scene investigation.

Experience hands on, how to retrieve fingerprints from crime scenes, the significance of blood splatter, how to retrieve DNA, and the effects alcohol can have on an individual. Collect clues and review your thoughts on the crime scene that is presented.


UNITY STEPPERS
Whittina Gregory – Director

The Unity Steppers are a stepping/dance team. This group consists of girls between the ages of 10 and 18. The Unity Steppers practice at the Ricketts Community Center on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday, 5:00pm-6:00pm. They perform in various community events in the Pottstown area. The girls impart team spirit with their intensive skilled, rhythmic and dance steps. The girls involved show pride in their community, self-confidence, social, and leadership skills. It’s amazing and fun to watch.

RICKETTS CENTER DRUM LINE
Leroy Brown - Director

The Ricketts Center Drum Line is a program that institutionalizes music as a foundation for building skills to help youth succeed in life. While learning to play percussion instruments in a professional drum corps style they will learn how to effectively work as a group as well as an individual. There will be additional classes held for beginners, as well as more advanced classes
for skilled musicians. The drum line will work cohesively with the Ricketts
Center Unity Steppers to also include performances.

Any persons aged 10 and older are welcome to participate. The Ricketts Center Drumline and Unity Steppers will participate in the Afro-Latino-Carribbean Parade and Festival on June 21 in Reading. For information on transportation comtact Ms. Crystal at 484-945-1020.
