From Brent Wagner - Superintendent, Wastewater Treatment Plant…
Kick off to Earth Day: Join the Pottstown Wastewater Treatment Plant Staff
at an Open House at the Pottstown Wastewater Treatment Plant located at 1269
Industrial Highway on April 19th, 2008 at 8am through 12noon to view our new
Biosolids handling operation. Refreshments and tours will be available. The new
Biosolids handling process will save our community $1500 or more a day, which
ends up saving the rate payer $500,000 per year. The biosolids dryer produces
a high-grade material that can be used for many purposes which includes green
energy, fertilizer, and composting. These options presented to us are much better
for our environment than just landfilling our sludge. If you have any questions
in regards to the Open House, please call Karen
Owens at 610-970-6540.
Do you know where your dog or cat goes when it’s lost? Either the police,
a resident, or the Animal Control Officer will bring the animal to the Pottstown
Wastewater Treatment
Plant’s Kennel. Annually, in the Pottstown area, the Pottstown Kennel receives
over 300 animals. A majority of the animals received do not have the proper licenses
and required shots. If you happen to lose your animal, call the Pottstown Wastewater
Treatment Plant at 610-970-6540 and a staff member will assist you accordingly.
There are fees associated with using the kennels as dictated by the Borough of
Pottstown Code of Ordinances starting at $15 penalty plus a $5 a day boarding
fee.
Are you in a FOG? Fats, Oils, and Grease can cause sewer problems in your
house, in sewer lines, and at the Pottstown Wastewater Treatment Plant. The Pottstown
Wastewater Treatment Plant has a FOG Program that monitors over 100 restaurants
in the Borough of Pottstown and the surrounding Pottsgrove Townships. The FOG
users are checked to ensure they are properly disposing of the FOG. There are
ways a homeowner can help with FOG problems. First, never put any grease down
the sink. Prior to washing dishes, always wipe off the grease with a paper towel.
Let used liquefied grease cool and solidify and dispose of it into your solid
waste container.
