The Borough of Pottstown has enacted a new Noise Control Ordinance.

The ordinance seeks to prohibit noise that disrupts the health, safety and welfare in the Borough.

On February 14, 2008, the governor of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania signed into law Act 3 of 2008 requiring municipalities to establish an official Open Records Access Policy to become effective on or before January 1, 2009; and

In order to come into compliance with the Pennsylvania Right to Know Law, the Borough has created an Open Records access Policy. To review the policy and lean more, click here.

The Bark Park Update!

The Bark Park was the project of the 2008 Tri-County Area Chamber of Commerce Leadership Class that included Pam McGinly, Terri Lampe, Jamie Ottaviano, Janet Flack and supervised by Eileen Dautrich.

The Park was also made possible through the financial assistance of Exelon Generating Station, PECO and National Penn Bank.

Yard Waste Notice

The next yard material collection is scheduled for July 2nd and 3rd.

If your trash is collected on a Thursday, your yard material collection will be on July 2nd. 

If your trash is collected on a Friday, your yard material collection will be on July 3rd.

Yard material regulations

Starting in May 2009 all yard material will need to be placed at curb or alley as a
separate collection. Yard material collection will be the first week of each month from May thru October on Thursday or Friday on the following dates: June 4 & 5, July 2 & 3, August 6 & 7, September 3 & 4 and October 1 & 2.

Leaves will be collected for 9 weeks starting in October and ending in December. Christmas trees will be collected for 4 weeks in January.

In the event that a holiday falls on a Thursday/Friday, then yard material
collection will be the next workday. Grass clippings will not be collected as part of the yard material collection program. Yard material will only be collected in cans or biodegradable paper bags. No yard material will be collected in plastic bags. Items to be collected are
as follow:

  1. Hedge clippings, small branches, leaves, plants, shrubbery, and other
    vegetation that can be composted.
  2. All branches must be tied in bundles no more than 3- 4 feet in length.

 

New Recycling and Trash Collection

The Borough of Pottstown has awarded a three-year contact to J.P. Mascaro to collect all recycling material, trash, and yard material.  The new contract will start on January 1, 2009. The new contract will require changes to the methods used for recycling and trash. Residents are reminded to place all recycling, trash, and yard material by the curb or alley the night before the scheduled collection day.

Important Addition
BULK WASTE
No changes have been made to the bulk waste collection program.

  1. Bulk items include but limited to: appliances, furniture, rolled carpets, larger
    tree branches, and mattresses/box springs.
  2. Bulk stickers are required for all bulk items.
  3. The bulk sticker costs are $15.00 for smaller items and $25.00 for
    appliances/white goods.
  4. Bulk item collection is on Thursday/Friday as part of the trash pick-up.
  5. If a holiday falls on a Thursday/Friday then the bulk items will be picked-up on the following Thursday/Friday.

PUBLIC NOTICE
Later Sundown Times Do Not Change Curfew Times! Ordinance No. 1752 places a curfew on minors under the age of eighteen (18). Sunday through Thursday minors must observe the curfew from 9:30 P.M. to 5:00 A.M. and on Friday and Saturday from 11:00 P.M. to 5:00 A.M.

It is unlawful for any minor to be or remain in or upon any public highway, street, road, alley, park or other public place or in any enclosure or vehicle which is on or in close proximity to any such street, road, alley, highway, park or other public place within the Borough of Pottstown.

This does not apply to minors with parents and guardians, minors with statements of why they are out, such as for reasons of returning from work, church, school and recreational activities and also for emergency errands.

The Schuylkill Trail
was developed as a multi-use public trail for walkers, joggers, bicyclists, cross-country skiers, and equestrians.
